22 killed in Punjab building collapse

In Punjab, the building of blanket factory, which caved-in a week back, has taken the life of 22 migratory labourers working inside on the fateful night of April 15th. However, the rescuers have managed to save 62 persons with much efforts. AIR Correspondent reports that heavy cranes and excavators are clearing up the rubble of the three-storied building of the factory. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) which is working in-tendem with Army, Punjab Police and some NGOs is although not hopeful of any more life under the debris but still taking every precaution in the clear-up operation. Chief of NDRF operations at the accident site, Commandant R.K.Verma has said, his battalions will work till the clearing up of the whole area.Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister has appreciated the role of all those involved in smoothly carrying out relief and rescue operation. He has announced to hike the ex-gratia grant released to the next of kin of the deceased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. The police investigation team has arrested the builder who was on the run.
