In Guatemala, at least 22 teenage girls were killed and injuring dozens more, after some residents set mattresses ablaze at a children's care home in San Jose Pinula. The head of Guatemala's national police, Nery Ramos, said the blaze started when a group of young people who had been isolated by authorities after a riot and an escape attempt at the center set fire to mattresses.<br/><br/>Police and Hospital authorities have said 40 people being treated for burns. President Jimmy Morales has declared three days of national mourning in Gautemala. His office said the cause of the fire is being investigated.<br/><br/>The shelter, run by the Social Welfare Ministry, takes in children up to the age of 18 who have suffered abuse or have been abandoned. Local media says that the shelter is also functioning as a juvenile detention centre, to which judges were sending adolescents involved in criminal cases.
