22 convicted in a Gujarat riots case; 61 including ex- BJP MLA acquitted

In Gujarat, a special court in Mehsana has convicted 22 people for the killing of 11 persons of minority community in Dipda Darwaja area of Visnagar town during 2002 post Godhara riots.

Court has also acquitted 61 persons including Prahalad Gosa former BJP MLA of Visnagar. Convicted 22 people include one dead person also.

The judgement was pronounced by the Designated Judge S C Srivastava. Quantum of punishment would be announced later today.

Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that 11 persons including 5 children had been burnt alive by a violent mob in Dipda Darwaja area of Visnagar town in Mehsana district on 28th February 2002.

All the victims belonged to one family. Dipda Darwaja is one of the nine cases, including the Godhra train burning case that was probed by the Special Investigation Team – SIT, on the orders of the Supreme Court.
