211 candidates still in fray for 36 Council seats in UP

In Uttar Pradesh a total of 211 candidates are left in fray for Biennial Election to legislative council of the state after competition of scrutiny. A total of 10 nominations have been declared invalid in two days long scrutiny. Four nominations were rejected yesterday from Allahabad -Kaushambi, Mirzapur-Sonbhadra and Pratapgarh seats. Six papers of independent candidates were declared invalid after scrutiny of papers on Tuesday.<br/> <br/>Today is last day for withdrawal of papers and Polling is slated on 7th of next month for 36 seats from the local bodies’ constituencies. Counting of votes will be held on 9th of next month. The tenure of present incumbents will expire on 15th of next month.<br/> <br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the ruling BSP and main opposition Samajwadi Party have fielded their candidates for all 36 seats. Several turn coats and independent candidates along with BJP and Congress nominees have also filed their nominations in several seats. The BSP has fielded many closed relatives of Mayawati Government Ministers, sitting MP and MLAs and notorious criminals.<br/> <br/>Meanwhile the BJP has accused the ruling BSP for misusing government machinery for the victory of its candidates in Legislative Council elections. Party has alleged that government has asked administrative officers to pressurise local bodies’ representatives to cast their votes in favour of BSP candidates.<br/><br/>
