?In Afghanistan, at least 21 militants have been killed in three separate operations in different parts of the country. Afghan Defence Ministry said that attacks by Afghan and NATO forces yesterday killed eight militants in southern Helmand province and six in eastern Ghazni province. Seven militants were killed in northern Kunduz province, which has become more violent in recent months.Meanwhile, the office of Attorney General (AG) has come under criticism for falsely charging country’s Foreign Minister in a case. Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta in an open letter to Afghan President questioned the competence of AG office which sought to implicate the minister for a Haj contract but later backtracked. The letter says that if the Office of the AG is truly committed to render a sincere contribution to the fight against corruption, he should do so with firm determination and without any desire to tarnish the dignity of genuine and honest individuals. This is the second such high-profile case where the role of AG office has come under scanner.Earlier this month, Mayor of Kabul was implicated in a case and served four years imprisonment but was later released on bail. Afghan President Mr. Hamid Karzai personally defended the mayor saying he is innocent and have been falsely charged. The AG office is responsible for investigating corruption cases, which the western nations have put a lot of stake upon. But the office lack of competency has put a question mark on fight against corruption in the war-torn country.
