In Uttar Pradesh about 2055 persons were taken into custody for their alleged involvement into business of spurious liquor in the state.<br/><br/>Quoting police sources AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that state police have conducted special drive against preparation and sell of spurious liquor across the state during last days of Month of February in view of Holi celebration. <br/><br/>During this period joint teams of state excise and police official seized more than 3000 liters of illegal liquor lodging about 2000 FIRs in different districts. Special attention was given in the bordering areas of Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand as it was learned that people in large numbers are engaged in smuggling and illegal business of spurious liquor in those areas.<br/><br/>Besides, police have also seized more than 1000 Kg Charus and Ganja and illegal arms and ammunitions during the drive.<br/><br/>Meanwhile taking a serious view of the spate of hooch-related deaths recently, the state government has decided to slap the gangster Act on those involved in the illegal trade. The Government has also said that if any hooch tragedy was reported from any of the districts, action would be initiated against the excise officials concerned in the area.<br/><br/>Four persons had died after consuming spurious liquor in Ghaziabad on 26th of last month and earlier on February 16, sixteen people were died after consuming spurious liquor in Varanasi district.
