In Gujarat, a special court in Mehsana has pronounced life imprisonment to 21 convicted in the Dipda Darwaja 2002 riots case. All were found guilty of rioting and attempt to murder. A Police Inspector has been given one year imprisonment for dereliction of duty, shielding accused and destruction of evidence.
The Court acquitted 61 persons including Prahalad Gosa former BJP MLA of Visnagar of all the charges. Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that 11 persons including 5 children and an old woman were burnt alive by a violent mob in Dipda Darwaja area of Visnagar town in Mehsana district on 28th February 2002.
