The pace of evacuation of Indians from strife torn Libya has been stepped up. Over 9,000 Indians have been evacuated so far. Another two thousand Indians will be evacuated from Strife torn Lybia later tonight. An External Affairs Ministry press release says, three special flights from two cities of Libya and three from Tunisia have arrived in India in the last 24 hours. More than one thousand people reached Delhi this morning. The release that the ship 'MV Red Star' has reached the Libyan coast and will sail to Malta with 400 passengers. Arangements are in place for flying them to India in two chartered flights. In a statement in the Rajya Sabha yesterday the Minister of State for External Affairs Praneet Kaur said, all Indians, stranded in Libya will be evacuated by Thursday. Giving an update of the situation, she said two Indians have died so far in accidents in Libya.She said there is no cut-off date for completion of evacuation process from Libya. To a query, she said the Government is not charging any fare from them. She informed the house that External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has already talked to his Libyan counterpart and has been assured of all possible assistance for the purpose. On the issue of protecting properties of Indians in Libya, Ms Kaur said it was the duty of the host country and India will take up the matter with the government which comes to power there.
