In Jammu & Kashmir, the Police have arrested at least 20 persons in connection with the lynching of DSP Mohammad Ayub Pandit so far.<br/><br/>Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Munir Khan said, one of the accused identified as Hizbul militant from downtown Srinagar, was killed on 12th of this month in an encounter in central Kashmir's Budgam district. <br/><br/>The IGP described the lynching of the DSP as serious and the first of its kind in the Valley. He said, the investigations were underway expeditiously and effectively and more arrests will be made. The officer said, all the arrested persons and those whose name surfaces during investigations, will be questioned.<br/><br/>Mohammad Ayub Pandit, who was posted outside the Jamia Masjid Srinagar in Nowhatta in old city during intervening night of June 22 & 23, was attacked and lynched to death by an irate mob. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a senior police officer, has been formed to probe the attack and submit its report on a fast-track basis.
