2 women patients die after fire at ICU

Two women patients died of asphyxiation in Tamil Nadu after a fire broke out in an intensive care unit of the Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai early today.Medical college sources said the fire was suspected to have emerged from an air-condition unit of the ICU in the ground floor, where the victims were admitted for treatment. Patients in other ICU units of the two storied building were shifted to different wards. Tamilnadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the victims. She has ordered an inquiry into the incident and said that preventive measures would be taken at all the Government hospitals in the state.
