Palestinian medical officials have said that two Palestinians were killed in the firing by Israeli troops near the Gaza Strip border last night. Without giving the details of casualties, an Israeli military spokesman said today that Israeli forces had opened fire on a group of Palestinians who attempted to cross Israel's border fence last night. Violence on the Gaza border has escalated in recent weeks though both Israel and Gaza's rulers Hamas say they are working to avoid a full-blown confrontation.
