In Odisha, two persons were killed and three others injured today in police firing at Kodala in Ganjam district. The incident took place when a group of people demanding release of some arrested villagers threw bombs at the police following which the police had to resort to firing. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed Director General of Police, Manmohan Praharaj, to rush to the spot. The Chief Minister also declared Rs 2 lakh compensation to the next-of-kin of the dead. Earlier, two persons were killed and two others injured in a group clash between two communities in Kodala on last Wednesday. A large number of houses were set on fire during the group class. The police had arrested many persons in connection with the clash. The police said, the incident is the fallout of a long-standing dispute between villagers of Sachina and the Aregola community.Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in Kodala, about 205 kms from Bhubaneswar and the situation is reported to be alarming in the area. Our correspondent reports, the Odisha Government has already ordered an administrative probe into the group clash.
