2- day Prasar Bharati PTCs’ workshop begins in Guwahati

In Assam, a two-day workshop of the Part Time Correspondents of Prasar Bharati began in Guwahati from Wednesday. The Conference has been organized to sensitize the PTCs in the backdrop of the forth-coming Assembly polls in the State. The Conference was inaugurated by the Chief Electoral Officer of the State Mr. Hemanta Narzary. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narzary said All India Radio and Doordarshan can do a lot for creating awareness among the voters to exercise their democratic rights to elect proper public representatives. He informed that for the first time in the State voter slips will be distributed ahead of the polling days to around 60 lakh families. Addressing as special guest in the opening function, the Director General (News), News Services Division of All India Radio Mr. G. Mohanty called upon the PTCs to follow the Election Commission guidelines in toto while filing news stories to the public broadcast medium like AIR and Doordarshan after announcement of the model code of conduct. Stating that PTCs are vital part of the Prasar Bharati, Mr. Mahanty asked the PTCs to remain alert against any kind of ‘paid news’. Speaking on the occasion, the Information Commissioner of the State Mr. B.K.Gohain advised the part time correspondents to report the events correctly with due authenticity.He also asked the correspondents to verify the events while filing news relating to any communal violence particularly during election time. The workshop is being attended by part time correspondents representing as many as 25 districts of the State.
