1st session of 16th LS begins; House adjourned for day after tribute to Rural Dev Min Munde

The newly elected 16th Lok Sabha had a brief meeting today.

The House was adjourned soon after it met, as a mark of respect to the memory of Union Minister Gopinath Munde who died in a road accident in New Delhi yesterday.

The House observed silence for a while to pay its respect to the departed soul. Pro-tem Speaker Kamal Nath announced that the members will be administered the oath tomorrow.

Earlier, the House also observed silence for a short while to mark the solemn occasion of the first sitting of the 16th Lok Sabha.

Before the House met, members greeted each other. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was escorted to his seat by a senior member of his party. He was cheered by the entire House.

Mr Modi went round greeting leaders of different parties sitting in the first row. He also greeted Congress President Sonia Gandhi who reciprocated his gesture.
