The Union Cabinet has recommended convening of the first session of the 16th Lok Sabha from the 4th to the 11th of next month.

The decision was taken by the Union Cabinet today at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, on the first two-days of the session, newly-elected MPs will be sworn-in and on the 6th, Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected.

Mr Naidu said, President Pranab Mukherjee will address a joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament on the 9th. He said, if needed, the session can be extended by a day.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said, Congress leader Kamal Nath who is the senior most member in the House, will be the pro-tem speaker.

His name has been recommended to the President. Besides, Arjun Charan Sethi, P A Sangma and Virendra Singh Angte will be on the panel to assist Mr Nath in administering the oath.

On Leader of Opposition, the Minister replied that the government is discussing the issue and there is time before a final decision is taken.
