The Election Commission has announced that the new poll date for the postponed first phase of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be March 3.
Earlier polling in 60 constituencies spread over 10 districts was slated on February 4. The Election Commission had rescheduled the dates of the first phase elections as it coincides with Eid-e-Milad un Nabi.
Notification for this phase of elections will be issued on 6th of next month while February 13 will be last date for nominations.
In this last phase, 60 constituencies spread over 10 districts of Pilibhit, Rampur, Bareilly, Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Moradabad, Bijnore, Bhim Nagar and Jyotiba Phule Nagar will go to polls. The Election schedule for other phases of Assembly Elections will remain the same. The Commission has announced that now counting of votes will take place on March 6. Earlier it was scheduled on March 4.
AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that unaccounted cash worth over 22 crore rupees has been recovered till now in the state during a drive, launched at the behest of the Election Commission, to check the flow of illegal money. More than 13 crore rupees have been seized during last 24 hours from different districts.
