In Tamil Nadu, all arrangements have been made for peaceful conduct of first phase of local body polls to be held on Monday. In the first phase, elections will be held for ten corporations including Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Madurai, sixty Municipalities including Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, 259 town panchayats and 191 panchayat unions.For the first time electronic voting machines will be used for local body polls in urban areas. The Election Commission will be using Ninety two thousand four hundred and fifty one EVMs across the State.In the second phase elections for 65 Municipalities, 270 town panchayats, and 194 panchayat unions will be held on Wednesday.Local body elections are being held in two phases for one lakh twelve thousand seven hundred and sixty posts. The votes will be counted on October 21. The elected members will meet on October 25 and Deputy Mayors will be elected by members on October 29. Mayors of ten corporations are elected directly by people in this election.
