In Jammu and Kashmir the first phase of multi-phase Panchayat elections passed off peacefully.In the first phase polling was held for eight blocks including Bishnah, Samba and Udhampur in Jammu district and Kangan, Budgam, Qoimoh and Kupwara in Kashmir region. More than 2,800 candidates were in the fray for the first phase of the 16-phase Panchayat elections and their fate will be known a short while from now.
