In Sri Lanka, the first phase of Hambantota Port project began today with the harbour basin being filled with water. Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa released water to the Hambantota harbour amidst chanting of Buddhist hymns. The first ship is expected to dock at the port in November.
