1st ever Eid visa camp by Indian High Commission in Dhaka begins

With the aim of easing travel of Bangladesh people to India during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr vacation, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka today organised the first ever Eid Visa Camp at the New Chancery in Baridhara.<br/><br/>The 12-day camp was inaugurated by Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in the presence of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla.<br/><br/>Over 6000 people queued up for submitting their visa applications which could be done on a walk-in basis without the need of an appointment.<br/><br/>Talking on the ocassion, Asaduzzaman Khan said the move would certainly strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two neighbouring countries.<br/><br/>The Indian High Commissioner said the India-Bangladesh relationship is unique with both countries sharing a four thousand kilometre long border.<br/><br/>Visa should be the least of the stumbling blocks for people of both countries exploring opportunities for further economic growth and contacts, he said.<br/><br/>The Indian High Commission issues the largest number of visas compared to any other Indian Mission in the world.<br/><br/>Last year, over a million Bangladeshis visited India for purposes ranging from medical care, tourism, study, family visits and business opportunities.
