1st Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting under India's G20 Presidency concludes today at Gandhinagar in Gujarat

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">The First Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting under India's G20 Presidency concluded today at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Around 100 delegates from G20 Nations, Invitee Countries, and International Organisations. participated in the event which focused on discussing progress made in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;"><br />''</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">The final day of the three-day event was dedicated to discussing eco-system based approaches to Disaster Risk Reduction. In his opening remarks, Member Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority Kamal Kishore reiterated the deliverables for the Working Group and urged the member countries to collectively think on how they can prioritize the deliverables and bring them into motion. Proposed deliverables for the way forward included a focus on disaster and climate-resilient infrastructure, inventory of risk assessment tools for infrastructure, and good practices for financing Build Back Better, among others. The Working Group has emphasized the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to Disaster risk reduction, with a focus on building resilient communities worldwide.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;"><br />''</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Later addressing media at Gandhinagar, Mr. Kamal Kishore said that the 1st Disaster Risk Reduction  Working Group Meeting witnessed a very productive, positive and collaborative discussion on five priority areas identified for this Group. He said, for the first time Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group has been established under G20. Mr. Kishore said, the agenda of this working group got full support from the G20 member countries.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Today the delegates were also taken on a tour of Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum at Bhuj. At the memorial, exhibits and presentations depicting the resilience shown by people during the devastating 2001 earthquake in the Kutch region of Gujarat were showcased to the visiting delegates.</span></p>
