The Kerala High Court today quashed cases against former Thalassery Additional SP Revatha Chandrasekhar and other police officials in connection with the 1994 police firing at Koothuparambu in Kannur district.The firing took place when DYFI activists tried to block the then Minister of Cooperation M V Raghavan from attending a function. Five DYFI activists lost their lives in the firing.The cases were registered following complaints by relatives of those killed in the firing, which was challenged by the police officials in the High Court. Dismissing the cases against police officials, Justice B P Ray observed that the police action was in discharge of their public duty. The Court held that the complaints were not maintainable as prior government sanction was not obtained to book the case against the police officials.
