<span style="color: #222222;">Remembering the 185th Death Anniversary of freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem, the first Khasi ruler to rebel against the British Empire, people from different walks of life came to pay homage to the great leader at Madan Iewrynghep today in Shillong.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The National People's Youth Front (NPYF) also organized the U Tirot Sing Syiem Youth Achievement Award to commemorate the 185th Death Anniversary of Khasi freedom fighter.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Chief Minister and NPP National President Conrad Sangma lauded the NPYF for taking up such an initiative and lauded the awardees. He said, U Tirot Sing Syiem was not only a freedom fighter of Meghalaya but also one of the greatest freedom fighters of India. He and his men fought the British ferociously, using multiple warfare strategies with their native weapons and put a strong resistance for four years from 1829 to 1833. Tirot Sing's courage and contribution to the state must be remembered. His supreme sacrifice made is something that must be inculcated into the hearts and minds of every youth, he added.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The U Tirot Sing Syiem Youth Achievement Award was conferred to five National Youth Awardees Kitboklang Nongphlang, Scaletty Lawriniang, Pranab Pariat, Empower Warbah and Andreas H Marwein – who, since 2006, had received awards on various national platforms.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Members of the District Councils from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Khasi Students Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) and North East Student Organization (NESO) also paid homage to the freedom fighter.</span><br />''
