182 jawans of Border guards sentenced to various jail terms in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, one hundred and eighty two Jawans of Border Guard Bangladesh signal sector were today sentenced to various jail terms ranging from four months to seven years for their involvement in 2009 BDR mutiny. Of the 182 convicted by the BGB Special Court, 20 were sentenced to jail for the maximum sentence of seven years, three have been sentenced for six years and 14 for five years. Of the remaining persons two have been sentenced for four years and six months, eight for four years, 16 for three years, 24 for two years, eight for two and six months, 32 for one year, 20 for one year and six months, 30 for six months and five for four months. The BGB special court also acquitted five person as the allegations against them were not proved. More than three thousand BGB jawans have so far been sentenced to different jail terms by the various special courts set up under the erstwhile BDR act. A total of 74 people including 57 army officers were killed during the February 2009 mutiny at the headquarters of Bangladesh Rifles now renamed as Border Guards Bangladesh.
