In Tamil Nadu, 1819 people tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. They include 502 in Chennai. The active caseload has dropped to 16,441. AIR correspondent reports, one of the main reasons for the sustained downward curve of Covid-19 as claimed by the state health department is the large number of tests being carried out every day. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, nearly 1.08 crore people have been tested so far in the state. The government says all the tests are being done using the RT-PCR kits, considered the gold standard in the diagnosis for the SARSCoV-2 virus.
''
''The overall positivity rate is estimated to be 7.03 percent, which, of late, has come down drastically. The RT-PCR method is said to have more credibility, as the false negatives and false positives are less compared to the other procedures.
