In Jammu and Kashmir, 18 people who were trapped in flash floods in Jammu region were rescued, while an alert was sounded in the area. Due to intermittent rain since last night, several rivers in the region are in spate. 18 people and large number of cattle were trapped in the flash floods in Ujh and Tawi rivers. 15 people were rescued from Ujh River in Kathua district while three trapped persons were rescued from Tawi river near Jammu city. Flash floods were triggered by intermittent overnight rain in Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur districts. The water level in Chenab, Tawi, Ujh and Basantar rivers are nearing the danger mark and people living in low-lying areas have been alerted and warned of flash floods. Meanwhile, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic today due to landslides triggered by heavy rain in Ramban district. The men and machines of Border Road Organisation are trying to clear the road, but rain hamper their efforts. Several vehicles have been stranded at various places on the arterial road.
