In Madhya Pradesh, at least 18 people have been killed and over 30 are still missing after a bus carrying over 70 people fell into Bagdi river in Dewas district last night. AIR Bhopal correspondent Shariq Noor reports that about 24 people were rescued. 18 bodies have been recovered so far. Several passengers were swept away by the strong current. The ill fated passenger bus was going to Chapda from Nemawar. It fell into Bagri river when its driver tried to cross an overflowing culvert. The bus was fished out of the river with the help of JCB machine. Most of the passenger had gone to take a holy dip in Narmada river in Nemawar on Amawasya parv. District collector Pushplata Singh has ordered a magisterial enquiry in to the matter. She said that the exact number of passengers could be confirmed only after the enquiry. Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a compensation of Rs. one lac to the kin of the deceased and Rs. 10,000 each to injured.
