Eighteen coal miners were abducted during a raid by about 100 Taliban militants in the Darra Adam Khel region of Pakistan's restive northwest. Media reports said, the raid was conducted in Akhorwal area on Friday night. They entered the area from Tora Chinna, which connects Darra Adam Khel with the Khyber tribal region. The militants initially abducted 26 miners. Some of the miners who were armed put up a resistance, fired at the militants and escaped from their custody, while the remaining 18 were taken away to Khyber. Security forces and the political administration learnt about the incident yesterday morning and conducted a search operation to trace the kidnapped miners.
