In Afghanistan, at least 17 people including a police official were killed today when a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle detonated his explosives in southwestern town of Farah.<br/>The provincial police chief said at least 30 more people have been injured, some of them seriously and the death toll could rise further. Women and children are among the dead and injured as the attack happened in a busy market near the residence of provincial governor.<br/>In another incident, three civilians were killed and three others were injured as their car hit a roadside bomb in eastern Khost city today. Meanwhile, militants targeted convoy of a parliamentarian and powerful former warlord Abdul Rasul Sayyaf near capital Kabul today but he escaped unhurt.<br/>Chief police of Pagman district, north of Kabul, said that Abdul Sayyaf was in a convoy with his bodyguards when a remote-controlled bomb hidden in an irrigation canal beside the road exploded. He said one car in the convoy was destroyed, and initial information indicated two of Sayyaf's bodyguards were killed.<br/>Sayyaf, who fought against the Russians, is considered close to President Hamid Karzai, who was sworn in for his second term yesterday. Mr. Karzai in his inaugural address said that Afghan forces will take over the country’s security in next five years.<br/>
