A road accident in southern Iraq has resulted in the death of 17 people on a pilgrimage to the holy city of Najaf. According to Voice of Iraq news agency, police have said that two buses collided on the main highway connecting Hilla to Najaf today, injuring another 53 people, most of them pilgrims. The casualties had reportedly come from those aboard both buses.
