17 guilty Indians to get legal assistance

Seventeen Indians, who were sentenced to death for killing a Pakistani and injuring three others in January last year in Sharjah, UAE will be provided legal assistance. An officer of the Indian consulate in Dubai told AIR that consular access has been asked to meet the convicted men. According to UAE’s constitution, these people can appeal to higher court against the judgement of Sharjah Shariah Court.<br/> Sharjah Shariah Court Judge Yousuf Al Hamadi yesterday pronounced death sentence to seventeen Indians after all evidences, including DNA tests, forensics reports showed they had knifed a Pakistani to death. According to report the convicted men are aged between 17 and 30 years. The police said that the incident occurred after a fight over control of the illegal liquor business in Al Sajaa area of Sharjah.
