In Andhra Pradesh, 16 ruling congress MLAs have been disqualified for voting against the Government on a No-Trust Motion last year. Assembly Speaker N Manohar decided their disqualification last evening under the 10th schedule of the Constitution that prevents party defections. He held a prolonged hearing during January over disqualification petitions filed by the Legislature Parties of the Congress and the Praja Rajyam Party.The Speaker also accepted resignation of a PRP member on the same issue.All the 17 MLAs are sailing with the expelled Congress leader and Kadapa Lok Sabha Member YS Jaganmohan Reddy for the past several days. This has brought down the strength of the ruling Congress party in the Assembly from 154 to 137 in a House of 294. This, however, does not pose an immediate threat as the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government presently enjoys the support of 17 PRP members and 7 MIM members.
