16th Asian Games begin in Guangzhou on Thursday

The 16th Asian Games begin in Guangzhou, China, tomorrow with a grand opening ceremony. A boat parade named "Setting Sail" on the famous Pearl River that passes through the length of the City will be one of the highlights of the ceremony. The Games will continue till the 27th of this month.All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the Opening Ceremony tomorrow from 1730 hours onwards on Rajdhani and other channels. Capsules on Daily Highlights will also be broadcast on all the days of the Games from 2200 hours to 2230 hours.Meanwhile, Indian athletes, buoyed by their unprecedented success in last month's Commonwealth Games, are bracing up for tougher challenge of making their presence felt against regional powers such as China and Korea. India are striving to finish among the top five nations on the medals table. India finished number eight in the last Games at Doha in 2006.Indian contingent's Chef de Mission Abhay Singh Chautala said in Guangzhou today that the Commonwealth Games has boosted Indian athletes' confidence.
