160 projects sanctioned by Tourism Ministry till December 2011

The Tourism Ministry has sanctioned 160 tourism projects till December last year for development of quality tourism infrastructure at tourist destinations in the country. These projects involved an amount of over 710 crore rupees. According to the annual report of the Ministry released in New Delhi today, it has also identified 53 mega tourism projects in consultation with state governments to give special focus on development of important destinations. Out of these, 35 have been sanctioned.

The report also said that the government continued its efforts to develop tourism infrastructure across the country. It will soon launch the Campaign Clean India aimed at creating collective mindsets of hygiene and cleanliness. The outcome of the Visa on Arrival scheme has been encouraging with around 13 thousands persons availed the facility in the last year. The Ministry is making efforts to extend this facility to the nationals of more countries.
