16 TN fishermen released by Sri Lanka to return home today

16 Tamil fishermen released from Sri Lanka will be returning to Tamil Nadu today evening. The Tamil fishermen were released as a goodwill gesture to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe's visit to Delhi. <br/><br/><br/>The fishermen hamlets of Nagai Pudukottai Ramanathapuram are awaiting the arrival of 16 fellow fishermen released from Sri Lankan jail. The fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy when they were fishing near Kodiakarai near the international maritime boundary line early this month. <br/><br/>The Sri Lankan Navy also detained 3 fishing boats of Tamil fishermen. The Tamil fishermen were released as a goodwill gesture last Sunday. The Tamil fishermen will be handed over to Indian Coast Guard at the international maritime boundary line by Sri Lankan Navy today. <br/><br/>They will be brought to Karaikal private port by Indian Coast Guard officials in ICGS Rani Abeca. These fishermen will be handed over to local fisheries authorities and then they will be sent to their local fishing hamlets. Tamil fishermen are urging the government to ensure the release of 24 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.
