In Afghanistan, NATO-led forces killed 16 suspected militants today in an operation in the eastern province of Kunar, which borders Pakistan's tribal regions. International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that joint forces killed more than a dozen militants and detained a suspected militant after searching a mountainside compound in Kunar province known to be used by an Al-Qaeda commander. An ISAF spokesman later confirmed that 16 people were killed and there were no civilian casualties. Kunar's police chief also confirmed all of the killed were Taliban. However, some residents complained that many of those killed were civilians and included nine members of one family. Among other incident, one US soldier was killed in an IED explosion in western Afghanistan yesterday.
