In Andhra Pradesh, the death toll rose to 16 in the hooch tragedy near Mylavaram in Krishna district with seven more succumbing yesterday.Nine persons died and several others fell ill after they consumed country made liquor on Saturday.Five persons are still battling for their lives in various hospitals in Vijayawada .The dead include three women and all the victims belonged to three tribal hamlets in the district.The state Government has announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees each to the kin of the victims. State Excise Minister Venkataramana Rao has announced the ex-gratia last evening after he visited the families of the victims.Meanwhile, the Government has ordered a judicial probe into the incident and directed the District Collector, Syed Ali Murtaza Rizvi to send a detailed report on the tragedy. The police took one person into custody in connection with the illicit liquor case.
