16 bogies of goods train derail in Assam after bomb explosion

In Assam, 16 bogies and the engine of a goods train were derailed in Udalguri district late last night following a powerful bomb explosion triggered by suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants through a remote control device. A top North East Frontier Railway official told our Guwahati Correspondent that, the bomb was planted under a culvert of the railway line between Rowta Bagan and Udalguri stations. The train, loaded with essential items was proceeding to Lakhimpur from Rangia junction when the explosion took place at around 10 last night. The driver, assistant driver and five Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel escorting the train sustained minor injuries following to the blast and they were rushed to hospital. A portion of the track has been blown up due to the impact of the blast. AIR correspondent reports that this is the second major attempt by suspected NDFB militants on the train in the same locality within a span of a month’s time. Top railway and district officials have already arrived on the spot and started investigation. Railway sources said restoration work on the damaged track has been started.Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive hunt in neighbouring areas of the blast to apprehend the culprits. Police have recovered some wires used for the explosion from the spot.
