16 arrested in Bangalore for sending threatening SMSs to NE people

The Karnataka Police has arrested 16 persons and lodged 15 complaints regarding verbal threats and threatening SMS sent to people of north East region, which led to their exodus recently. City Police Commissioner Jyoti Prakash Mirji said three people were arrested today for inciting hatred mail through bulk SMS.

The Commissioner also said 600 personnel of Rapid Action Force and CRPF, 1500 State policemen and another 600 Home Guards conducted flag march in sensitive areas this evening. Patrolling has been intensified in these areas and peace meetings are conducted to instill confidence in the people from north East.

The exodus of people from north east from Bangalore has come down. According to reports, just 300 people travelled to Guwahati on Saturday by train. Director General of Police Pachau said the situation is completely peaceful.

In Chennai, people from northeast continued to exit the city for the third day with hundreds thronging the railway station and heading back home.The Pune railway station also witnessed a similar situation.
