The 149th birthday of Swami Vivekananda is being celebrated throughout West Bengal today. The day is also being observed as National Youth Day in the county. Special functions have been organised at Belur Mutt, the headquarter of the Ramkrishna Mission and all its branches to mark the day. People from all walks of life are visiting the birthplace of Swamiji at Simlapara in North Kolkata since early morning. AIR correspondent reports that the West Bengal Government will launch monthly sports scholarships to the 15,000 meritorious youth sportsmen at a function in Kolkata this morning on the occasion. The Railway Minister Ms. Mamta Banerjee will inaugurate Vivekananda Park and will unveil a statue of Swamiji at Behala in South Kolkata in the afternoon. Various youth organisations are also observing the day in a befitting manner.
