In Nepal, more than 1500 tourists stranded for over a week at Lukla, considered the gateway to the Mt. Everest region in Solukhumbu district have been rescued yesterday with the help of the Army and other helicopters and airplanes operated by private airlines.According to Nepal Tourism Board press statement, the tourists were stranded tourists there due to bad weather in the region which hindered the operation of regular flights to and from Lukla in north eastern Nepal.Weather officials in Kathmandu said the area had seen low clouds and high winds in the past three to five days, making flights by small airplanes difficult and risky. Every year thousands of trekkers and climbers visit the Everest region in Solukhumbu district of Nepal.
