15 miners rescued so far out of 33 trapped in Chile

In Chile, 15 miners have been rescued so far out of 33 trapped underground for 68 days amidst scenes of jubilation and ecstatic scenes of reunion with their families. The first miner to be rescued was Florencio Avalos, who was winched to the surface shortly after 8.40 AM Indian Standard Time today. He was greeted by family and hugged by President Sebastian Pinera. Also to emerge were the only non-Chilean, Bolivian national Carlos Mamani, and the youngest miner, Jimmy Sanchez.in an address at the mine Pinera declared the rescue a miracle. Officials say they should be able to rescue one miner each hour.All the rescued miners had undergone two hours of health checks up and then flown by a helicopter to a hospital in the town of Copiapo. Among the rescued miners, a 19 year old miner who worked as an environmental assistant and the father of a newborn baby. Eye witnesses say rescue work is as striking as watching man walk on the moon.
