15 killed as under-construction flyover collapses in Kolkata

15 people were killed and several others feared trapped under the debris when a flyover collapse in Kolkata. Top officials of the state and Police administration, city Mayor are coordinating rescue at the spot.<br/><br/>Army team has been requisitioned to rescue people from a number of trapped vehicle including a city transport mini bus and some taxis. Nine of the injured persons admitted to the Medical College and Hospital succumbed to their injuries. <br/><br/>Teams of Army personnel, having reached the spot, and launched rescue operation with heavy-duty earth-movers and cranes. The state administration has opened an Emergency Operations Centre at state Secretariat, Nabanna. The control room helpline number is 1070.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness over the collapse of under-construction flyover in Kolkata. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, he is shocked and saddened by the incident. The Prime Minister said, he took stock of the situation and the rescue operations. Mr Modi said, his thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives. He wished speedy recovery of the the injured.<br/><br/>West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the spot of the under construction flyover that collapsed today killing at least 15 people in north Kolkata's Girish Park area. She said the guilty behind the disaster would not be spared. She said rescue now is the first priority.<br/><br/>The state Government has announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh to next of kin to the victims and Rs 2 lakh to gravely injured people. According to official reports, more than 75 people have been injured and some more may still trapped under the debris of the collapsed flyover near Ganesh Talkies cinema.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked the Director General of National Disaster Responce Force, NDRF to rush rescue teams to the spot of under construction flyover collapse in Kolkata. <br/><br/>The DG, NDRF has immediately deputed seven NDRF teams which started operations on reaching the site. Two more teams are being mobilized for this operation. Mr Singh expressed his heart felt condolences to the families of the deceased in this accident.
