15 Assam districts still reeling under flood

In Assam , 15 districts are still reeling under flood waters. Talking to AIR correspondent, state Home Secretary, G D Tripathi said that most of the rivers are maintaining a rising trend due to the additional waters released by China. 16 teams of National Disaster Response Force, 60 army teams and 18 teams of State Disaster Response Force are undertaking relief and rescue works in a few districts of Upper Assam. Four helicopters have been pressed into service at Sadia of Tinsukia district to air drop necessary food items and rescue marooned people. In Dhemaji, around 10 thousand people were rescued during last 48 hours. Power failure in Dhemaji district has paralysed normal life since this morning. In Majuli Island, flood water submerged low lying areas of Nine Sattras. Circuit house, jail and a CRPF camps also submerged in flood water. District administration ferried cattle head to safer places at Majuli. Flood waters also submerged Pandu area of Guwahati city. Movement of vehicles also affected at Pandu. Flood water also submerged villages at Bishwanath Chariali in Sonitpur district. Surging waters inundated villages in Marigaon,Rangia,Nalbari. Flood waters breached Rangia-Goreshwar PWD road at Rangia this morning ,preventing movement of vehicles. Parts of Kaziranga National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary also submerged.
