In Tamil Nadu 14th assembly session began on Monday. Soon after the newly constituted assembly met, a condolence resolution was adopted mourning the death of Environment Minister Mariam Pitchai who was killed in an accident at Tiruchi Monday morning. The members also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to him. Following this, Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo Ms. J.Jayalalithaa was the first to be sworn in as the member of the assembly. The Ministers of the present cabinet, the opposition leader Mr. Vijaykant and other leaders of the AIADMK allies took oath following her. Later former Dy. Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin and the former ministers and the remaining MLAs as per the alphabetical order in Tamil took the oath of office as MLAs. Former Chief Minister and DMK President Mr.M. Karunanidhi could not be sworn in as he was away in New Delhi. Former Law Minister Mr.Durai Murugan who had accompanied the DMK Chief also could not take oath. The session took place at the Assembly hall of Fort St.George which was neatly decked up for the occasion. After the MLA s were sworn in as members, the House was adjourned to meet again on 27th of this month for the election of the Speaker and the Dy. Speaker of the House. Governor Surjeet Singh Barnala would deliver the customary address of the Assembly.
