14 million Sri Lankans exercised their franchise

In Sri Lanka, more than 14 million voters today exercised their franchise to elect the country's new President in the post LTTE phase. Minor incidents of violence have been reported especially from the Jaffna. According to reports, after initial slow voters turn out, people came out in large numbers to cast their votes. In Colombo, long queues could be seen in the Tamil dominated area of Wellawatta.The election commissioner said, counting of votes will begin tonight and the final results are expected by tomorrow morning.
