14 killed, 35 injured in truck train accident in UP

In Uttar Pradesh at least 14 persons were killed and more than 35 injured in an accident Sunday afternoon in Gonda district.<br/>Quoting official sources our Lucknow correspondent reports that the accident occurred when a sand loaded truck dashed against Ayodhya bound passenger train on Gorakhpur Ayodhya route near Mankapur railway station at a no man railway crossing. 11 persons died on the spot while one train passenger succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Nearly 35 injured, some of them seriously, have been admitted to various hospitals. Senior railway and administrative officers have reached the spot to monitor rescue operation. The DRM Lucknow said the driver and the cleaner of the truck and the passengers hanging outside the coaches near the engine were among those killed.<br/>The Railways has announced the ex gratia of Rupees 5 lakh to the next kith and kin of those killed in the accident. Rupees one lakh will be paid to those who are seriously injured and Rs. 10,000 to passengers with minor injuries.<br/>
