At least 14 people, including nine children, drowned as tens of thousands of faithful took holy dip in rivers and ponds and prayed in temples across the country on Sunday on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima.While, nine children and an adult died in Orissa, two each lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during celebrations on the full moon day of Kartik month.According to a Hindu legend, taking dip during Kartik Purnima cleanse devotees of their sins.Faithful also believe that on this day, gods descend on earth and reside in sacred rivers.
