Widespread flooding due to unusually heavy rains in many parts of the Philippines has killed 14 people in recent days. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a total of 10 people drowned in villages lining the Pulangui, one of the overflowing 11 rivers on the major southern island of Mindanao. In two other incidents on Mindanao, a girl and a man lost their lives in the overflowing Lanang River. Two other deaths were reported on the main island of Luzon. The rain ravaged Mindanao towns and the five cities have a combined population of more than seven lakh. The disaster council said, food and other relief aid has also been given to nearly 90,000 more people staying with relatives instead of going to relief camps.
