Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said an ambitious Rs 1,350-crore scheme will be implemented soon to strengthen and upgrade the medical education in the country. Addressing the 31st convocation of Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, Azad said that effort was expected to add about 4000 post-graduate medical seats to the existing pool. Expressing grave concern over a WHO report that India faces risk of having a high number of cancer cases by 2020, Azad said a cancer-combat pilot project is being launched in 100 districts.
